Occurrence of Common Goldenrods

The Common Goldenrod (Solidago virgaurea) is found at the edges of deciduous forests, in bushes or along paths, as well as on fallow land and poor grasslands. It is widespread in Central Europe. This perennial herbaceous plant is the only representative of the goldenrod family native to Central Europe. Other varieties mainly grow in North America. The ancient Germans already knew the goldenrod and used the bright yellow ornamental plant as a medicinal herb.

The Common Goldenrod has few soil requirements, which explains its wide distribution in our regions. Other names for the plant include True or Common Goldenrod, also Goldraute. It is also known as wound herb or fox tail.

Ingredients of Common Goldenrods

Flavonoids and triterpenoid saponins are among its important ingredients. The root of the Common Goldenrod contains essential oil and phenolic glycosides. The effect of the medicinal plant is attributed to the interaction of its ingredients.

Effect of Common Goldenrods

Its healing effect is mainly evident in urinary tract infections. It stimulates the bladder to excrete water, flushing out germs from the body. It is important, of course, to drink plenty of fluids to compensate for the fluid loss. Goldenrod is also included in our Dignatio! BlasenKraft. Here, it forms a strong team with sage and other ingredients for a healthy bladder.

But its abilities go beyond its diuretic properties. It is also attributed with pain-relieving and anti-inflammatory properties. The Common Goldenrod already served the Germans as a wound-healing herb. Compresses with the dried or fresh plant were supposed to help wounds heal faster.

Appearance of Common Goldenrods

Its flower head consists – typical for the Asteraceae family – of several small individual flowers, which are quite loosely arranged in the native Common Goldenrod. Its bright yellow color draws attention from August, when its flowering period begins, and stands out especially in the sparse environments where it thrives. No wonder it is also often planted in gardens.
